Even a Broken Heart is Right Twice a Day

klpac’s Theatre for Young People opens SEASON 2011 with A History of Falling Things – a phobia filled comedic love story written by British playwright James Graham’s, staged at Pentas 2, klpac from 19 until 22 May 2011, directed by Christopher Ling.

This 21st century love story is themed around the fear of falling satellites, a phobia known as keraunothnetophobia, where phobic cyberspace love birds – Jacqui and Robin, communicate solely via webcam; “Oh, you do look…really good, though. You know. In the face. Oh and, uh, I love you”. The phobic’s restricted to living indoors because of their infliction; foster their adoration on the net; the biggest question remains – will the thing that brought them together be the thing that keeps them apart?

Featuring an all-new ensemble of 5 promising talents aged from 16 to 25 years – Amir Yunos, Amanda Tan, Devyani Gupta, Kamini Senthilathiban and Umesh Logandran. These 5 young people have been selected from 45 candidates who auditioned in March to be a part of the T4YP Ensemble Season 2011.

Christopher Ling remarks, “The theme for this piece is pretty universal because everyone falls in love regardless whether they are young or old. The story itself does appeal to today’s youth where internet relationships are interpersonal relationships between people who have met online, and in many cases know each other only via the internet. Way back then, pen pal relationship is in many similar ways to online relationships, only that it provides a level of interactivity beyond plain text.”

Now in it’s forth year, klpac’s T4YP programme is the leading platform for young people between the ages of 16 to 25 to express themselves by creating meaningful theatre. With a series of 6 productions back to back, A History of Falling Things will be the 2011 ensemble’s first venture in a main stage performance. The T4YP Season 2011 is powered by YTL Power.
